Pride Goeth Before the Fall

You’re Invited

Saturday, November 16th, 2024
Endicott Estate, Dedham MA

Welcome to Pride Goeth Before the Fall, an immersive fantasy event set in a fantastical 1800s London.

In this world, participants create their own stories of intrigue, romance, politics, and strange faerie magics. We invite you to imagine the setting as a canvas with broad brush strokes, in which players are invited to co-create the world by painting in their own stories.

Take inspiration from media like Bridgerton, Queen Charlotte, and Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell.

Period-piece Aesthetics, Inclusive Values

While we want you to enjoy the aesthetics of 19th century costumes and courtly drama, we want to be inclusive of people of all backgrounds, ethnicities, races, abilities, orientations, genders, ages, relationship statuses, and other protected statuses. For this reason, our setting is one in which all identities are accepted.

Where does the scandal come from, then? Simple, it’s status.

For example: It might be acceptable in the eyes of Society for a married Viscount to date outside of his open marriage, but if the other man he is dating has a reputation of being a rake? Well… that’s cause for gossip!

  • The Scenario

Society is in a tizzy after the uncanny disappearance of Duke Rivington, the recent inheritor of Endicott Estate. The Duke was rumored to dabble in forbidden magics, and many were shocked to receive an invitation to this ball in his absence!

The event, hosted by the Duchess, Odette Rivington, is scandalously themed after Queen Mab, a recently published poem by an uncredited poet that has themes of societal reform and harmony with nature. It is to be a faerie masquerade. Nobles from around the globe flock to the social event of the season, setting their sights on solving the mystery, finding true love, securing their positions in court— or perhaps all of the above!

FAQs

  • That’s fine! You can get involved in anything you like, you’re not limited based on what you initially chose. We ask you to choose at least one specialty area because we want to have options for the type of gameplay you might most enjoy available and easily find-able.

  • Romantic entanglements are all based on clearly expressed mutual consent between players. During onboarding, we will teach you techniques for inviting other players to engage in romantic storylines, and how to accept and refuse those invitations.

  • Sort’ve. We want players who participated in Romancing Jan games and events to feel free to bring their characters in, with the understanding that we won’t be making many references to lore from that game so as to be inclusive for new players.

  • This is a really tricky topic, and one we absolutely respect different opinions on. The intent of making an inclusive setting is to enable people to play together that would not have been welcomed to play together in a historical setting. And we recognize that intent and impact are not the same. Our strategies for mitigating the feelings of identity erasure include hiring exclusively writers of color to write about their own cultures and ancestries, modeling what we hope for players to be able to do as well. We do not want to erase or ignore history, but rather to create a place where we can hold the changes that we wish to see in our society together, and invite collaboration.
